Anyone know how to create a facebook page ?

I like to use a facebook page to make promotion for the gay-lounge.net but failed

can anyone give me a few tipps that it actually works ?

I wanted to include images about the history for this site that worked so far.. LOL
Can i change the layout too , make the backgroud black or something similar ?

And what the heck are apps and what is there use ?

I can't help with Facebook, as I don't use it. You will be very busy with visits there! I'll just say my usual thing - no linked content from here to there, please... You might have the FBI and the thought police all over it, too...

Now, I don't really use Twitter either, But I can see the use of that, it is faster, not so complex (the tweets are thankfully limited in terms of characters), and very easy for people to follow - including if we go down for some reason. It is very good for status reports etc.

I can't advise either Armie. I abandoned the evil Facebook over a year ago and can't now recall how the set-up works.

And bm's quite right in saying that law-enforcement and many other organisations use FB (& twitter) to 'monitor' people for illegal activities, statements, etc. So if you're going to use any social networking site to promote our site(s) I'd strongly advise you avoid using them for GT.

But they should be OK for GL. chub.me, etc. if you don't fall foul of their usage policy as they may prefer you pay to place ads instead.

Yeah, I use Facebook for some contacts and NOW they're forcing everyone to create a facebook Time-line. It's more effort than I feel like putting into it. To answer your question Armie, I have no idea---it can't be much harder than creating a Youtube homepage---which is also now a "requirement. At least Youtube cobbles some default crap together for people like me who can't be bothered.

I believe the reasoning on the Facebook "timeline" is that it allows content to have a longer useful life span and allows for context. They actually invite you to "tell your life story" with your homepage. Baby Pictures, graduation ceremony, wedding shots, a bit of narrative--that content to stay resident on the front page forever. I'm so sure! It's a bit of a paradigm shift for some --who like the hit-n-run aspect of Facebook--and the fact that a wall used to fit on a smartphone with no side-to-side scrolling.

In depth discussions are what Blogs and Forums were designed for. But you should check out G_R's facebook. He got the intent of the concept pretty well nailed.

As with all sites on the web, if you have the option to force an SSL connection, do so. (Facebook gives you this option: Upper-right arrow > Account Settings > Security > Secure Browsing)

There is absolutely no reason Gay Lounge needs to be private on Facebook. In fact, that would defeat the purpose of putting it on Facebook.

erm LOL you know you'd learn alot better by experimenting
like create a test prototype page before making the main GT page

but anyhow

first click create a page at the bottom

then select what kind of page you want
and that will then give you some options
select what category GT comes under
and enter a name for the page
read and then agree to FBs terms and select "get Started"

now you'll be given a few steps

Step one profile photo
which is easy
just either uploads a logo of GT to Facebook from the site
OR give it a URL to a picture off of this site

Step two getting fans
Option 1
Invite Friends
this will give you the option to invite friends you have made on Facebook to become a fan of your page
just click the button and in the drop down box select all friends
now you'll have a list of all your mates
select who you want to invite by clicking on the tick box by their names and then press submit

Option 2 (I really don't recommend this)
Give Face book access to your contacts on various email accounts and what not
it's really easy to do though i think you'll have to give it your password at some point

just basically adds a link to you profile page for people to click so they can gain acsess to your page
you also get the option to add a message to the link


Option 4
just add the page to your likes


Step Three Information
Just add a URL to this site and type a brief description

And now you have the page all you have to do is fill it

now Before you do anything else I suggest you hide this page till it is finished
so in the admin panel select the manage drop down button and press edit page

now select Unpublish page (only admins can see this page) and don't worry this will be easy yo undo later
I also suggest you add the age limit while you here and customize what you want while you on this page
then click save changes and done

now that's done I also suggest you customize the URl

this option won't always appear so you may have to like click off somewhere then come back

but when you do you'll get something like this

name it what you want press check availability
if it's available select confirm and you'll have a nice new URL for GTs FB page :P (something like facebook.com/Gaytorrentsnet)



now that's the very basics done
if you want more help just ask and I'll create a part two of my tutorial
but i recommend that you either create a test page and play round yourself or get someone else to make it for you

One other thing - just like here, have multiple people allowed to admin the page.

actually that's another thing I can show him
first republish your page then get the person who you want to be the admin to add the page to his likes
then find that person in notifications and click him

now this will take you to this page

simply click the make admin button and save the changes then enter your password and you have a new admin for the GT page
you can then simply sit back and give your new admin orders
but be warned that any new admin can strip you of your admin status and take total control
so only use trusted people for this



also another way is to go straight to the manage admins page by clicking the manage drop down box in the admin panel then selecting the edit page option
and now select manage admins on the side

and just find the people you want as admin though for adding admins I recommend the first method

you can add images BUT you can not change the colour scheme

and I'll have a play round with the apps lol

Go to any Facebook page, then in the top right hand corner it says, "Create Page"
Click on that.
Then follow the steps.
Choose a category for your page.
Name the page.
Description.
Add a picture.
Then your basically done!!
